Prowler contains several musical ideas that pursue one another while building suspense. These sometimes animalistic sounds and percussive grooves build and release tension throughout the piece. Some sections require the performer to improvise material and use extended playing techniques. The electronic accompaniment is largely composed of trumpet samples provided by Kelly Rossum, for whom the work was composed.
